Yugo Kanaya

Yugo Kanaya is the Director of the Earth Surface System Research Center (ESS) at the Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC) of the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) in Yokohama, Japan. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Tokyo in 2000. He is an expert in atmospheric chemistry, with a focus on short-lived climate forcers (SLCFs), such as aerosols and air pollution gases. His research group's work includes joint analyses of greenhouse gases, tracking emissions from observations, and optical measurements using satellites, as well as the biogeochemical interactions of the Earth's atmosphere, oceans, and land. Dr. Kanaya has served as an SSC member of IGAC, a GRN of Future Earth. He has also contributed to IPCC reports, serving as a review editor for AR6, WG1, Chapter 6 and as a lead author for AR7, Methodology Report on Inventories for SLCFs.
