Help Shape Asia’s Sustainability Priorities: Asia Science Mission Launches Expert Survey
The Asia Science Mission (ASM) has launched a regional expert survey to identify Asia’s most urgent sustainability challenges and inform the design of coordinated, mission-driven responses. Endorsed by the International Science Council (ISC) and UNESCAP, the survey seeks insights that will directly shape ASM’s priorities as it works to address critical sustainability issues across the region.
About the Asia Science Mission
The Asia Science Mission is a regional initiative led by Future Earth Asia to address Asia’s most pressing socio-ecological challenges through mission-driven collaboration.
By connecting scientists, policymakers, investors and communities, the initiative seeks to transform fragmented sustainability projects into coordinated regional missions capable of delivering scalable solutions for climate resilience, environmental sustainability and human wellbeing.
ASM is inviting contributions from a wide range of non-academic experts, including professionals from UN agencies, multilateral organizations, donor agencies, government bodies, philanthropies, NGOs, consultancies, and development sectors across Asia. By gathering diverse perspectives, the initiative aims to build a comprehensive understanding of regional needs and opportunities for impact.
Through this survey, ASM aim to:
- Identify critical, shared sustainability challenges requiring coordinated, transdisciplinary responses
- Analyze key data and coordination gaps across regional and national efforts
- Identify priority interventions where ASM can deliver the greatest impact
Insights gathered will contribute to a regional needs assessment and help guide the co-design of mission-driven actions across Asia.
Experts and practitioners are encouraged to participate and share the survey within their networks to ensure broad and inclusive input.
The ASM is supported by the ISC Regional Focal Point for Asia and the Pacific, which is funded by the Australian Department of Industry, Science and Resources and led by the Australian Academy of Science. The five-year programme (2023-2028) is working to ensure that regional needs and priorities are adequately represented in the International Science Council’s global agenda on issues of major importance to both science and society.
