TENTATIVE

The Sustainable Water Future Programme (WATER FUTURE) is a global research initiative focused on addressing critical water challenges related to policy, security, and sustainability. Building on over a decade of work from the Global Water System Project, WATER FUTURE, a core activity of Future Earth, seeks to accelerate solutions for a sustainable planet. Hosted by Griffith University’s Australian Rivers Institute, the program emphasizes interdisciplinary research to balance the needs of both humanity and ecosystems while advancing the Sustainable Development Agenda.

WATER FUTURE follows a knowledge-to-action agenda guided by the Bonn Water Declaration, aiming to understand the global water system’s complex, interlinked nature. Its initiatives include risk assessments, fresh water system strategies, and expanding environmental monitoring using advanced technologies like satellite systems. The program also prioritizes fostering the next generation of water scientists and exploring innovative, ecosystem-based alternatives to traditional water management. Through these efforts, WATER FUTURE aims to deliver actionable, science-backed solutions for global water security and sustainability.
